Hancock Park, California

This house had wonderful midcentury modern bones but had been butchered by several previous remodels. We took the center line of the original H-shape of the home and enlarged it to create a much more expansive and tall living space that connects the two “wings” of the house and showcases the large yard and pool area. The result is an impressive open living space connected to the more intimate kitchen that retained the lower ceilings, with the family bedrooms in one wing and a guest house and office in the other.

With the use of concrete, natural stone, and elements of wood siding, we revived the midcentury modern roots of the home and infused it with a more contemporary and warm twist.
