Fire damage had ruined this already old and rather classic-looking bungalow, located in a lovely suburb of Los Angeles. We kept the existing shell of the house, but wanted to create something with distinctly modern twist to a very traditional silhouette.
By creating clean lines, adding interesting window configurations, a contemporary wood overhang, a concrete “fence” and a contrasting color 2-story addition in the back, we achieved just that. On the interior, we took out all the walls and ceilings on one half of the house, creating a large open concept living space with sloped ceilings reaching 14’ in height. Skylights add lots of natural light, and the tall brick wall adds personality and warmth to the space.
